something to believe in

22 Jun

Believe!

We all need something to believe in and I think it’s important to learn to believe in yourself. I also think it’s important to surround yourself with supportive people. Last week I decided I was going to, get this, become a runner. Not just one of those people that runs randomly but really does it. I know I can do this, but I welcome support and happy thoughts.

I’m not sure if I’ve said it here before, but I’m a huge fan of Caitlin over at Healthy Tipping Point. (Seriously, I want to be best friends with her.) This morning she posted a video that couldn’t have come at a better time – it’s so incredibly inspirational. You should head over to her blog to read about it and watch the video… and to drool over her breakfast.

I’m SO excited that it’s the first official weekend of summer! Beach, sun, kayaking (wha?), sleeping in… oh how I love it!

friday letters

Dear Best Friend, Happy National Best Friend Day!!

Dear weekend, THANK YOU for finally showing up. It feels like forever since we’ve been together.

Dear iPhone, I appreciate you. You allow me to stay somewhat connected to the outside world even though I don’t have internet at home. Plus, you have that cool app that tracks my sleep cycles.

Dear summer, you’re here!

Dear SarahCatherine, One year!!

Dear People that say “literally”, Please, I beg you, learn when to say it. You didn’t literally sleep for 127 hours, you slept for 9.

Dear future puppy, It’s killing me that I can’t come get you now. Right now. But when I do we’re going to have the best time cuddling together and watching the Bachelorette. No doubt. Plus, I already have a friend for you to play with. He’s nice, you’ll like him.

Dear new apartment, I love you!!… Even with your squeaky floors, closet-less bedroom, and that trombone player that lives downstairs. I love coming home to you and unpacking another box and cooking in the kitchen. I seriously LOVE cooking in that kitchen.

Dear boyfriend, Because I have so much more space to work with in my kitchen I’ll be baking more. Prepare yourself. Do what you gotta do.

Dear running shoes, I’m sorry I haven’t used you for running in a long time. I promise I’ll get back to running as soon as I feel more settled and unpacked. Soon!

Dear sisters, I’m SO glad we rotated the DVDs. I’m loving watching my set!!

Happy weekend!!

tidbits

31 May

A year ago yesterday I wrote this post, which makes me laugh because I had a very similar idea for today.

Here are some tidbits about what’s been going on/what’s been on my mind…

  • The dentist I went to growing up told me for years that I have 3 wisdom teeth. Turns out he was incredibly wrong. Very, very wrong. After going to a new dentist yesterday I learned that I have ONE wisdom tooth.
  • I’ve lived next door to this one guy for a year now and never learned his name, but always thought he looked like a Dan, so I’ve called him Neighbor Dan. Not to his face of course. The other day we were talking and I apologized for sounding rude, but I asked his name. It’s Russ. Lemme tell you, that is NOT what I was expecting.
  • Tomorrow is National Doughnut Day. Nuff said.
  • Never eat a grilled cheese and go for a run. It doesn’t end well. Trust me.
  • Today I am moving! I am SOSO excited about this new apartment I can’t even tell you. The one major downfall? There is no closet in the bedroom. Oh, okay? I welcome suggestions of how/what I should do with all my clothes.
  • Last weekend we went to Roxy and Davie’s baby shower and they found out they’re having a girl!! Next week I’m going to try and post the video because those two were just as adorable as you can imagine. I have never been there when a couple found out what they were having so it was fantastic to see their reaction. 🙂
  • I can’t get over how amazing littlest bug is.
  • I still love country music.

confession: i fell off the horse

16 Apr

What horse? I don’t even know where the horse went.

So. Bottom line… I have stopped running.

It has been so cold/I have been so tired/I haven’t had anyone to push me/Excuse/Excuse/Excuse

I finished Week 1 and was halfway through Week 2 when I stopped… about 2 weeks ago. I know, yikes. Bad. Sad. Silly. Sarah and Corey have both agreed to be my tough love person with the running I surely don’t want to be yelled at from 200 miles away or by my boyfriend, so I best get to it!

I really didn’t want to run Saturday after having gone to see Hunger Games (which was AMAZING btw) and having nachos, chocolate, and coke. Lots of each of those. But then Corey said he’d go home and run too so even though neither of us wanted to we both would. An hour later I was out running the most pathetic run of my whole running life (ya know, a whole 4 weeks). I walked most of the way, but hey, I was back out there!

Not saying that Sarah and Corey can’t/won’t keep me motivated, but I needed something else to light a fire under me. So I signed up for the Torchlight Run, a 5K in JUNE! June 21st to be exact. According to the website that is exactly 66 days. I can run a 5K in 66 days, right?? RIGHT?!

Here’s to getting back on the horse!

Couch to 5K: Week 1

29 Mar

Good morning, lovelies!

Found this on an inspirational website with lots of exercises, daily tips and motivation

I know I said that I’ve recently started running, but I’m not sure I told you that I’m doing the Couch to 5K running plan. Most people have heard of it before, or at least some version of it, but generally it’s a plan that starts of easy and slowly progresses over the course of 9 weeks so at the end you’ll be able to run a 5K. The plan has you run a minimum of 3 days a week for about 20-30 minutes, but say it’s completely fine if you run more (with a set day off per week so you don’t strain anything).

Motivation for me to workout. Motivational Blog!

This first week has been much more awesome than I would have thought it could be. I’ve said it before, but I am NOT a runner. I went out 4 times this week. The first two and the last one were super great… the third one I made a major rookie mistake. I ate a grilled cheese about an hour before going out. Oops!! I felt sluggish and unmotivated and (if I’m being honest) I felt like I was going to puke for the second half. I will NOT be making that mistake again.

so true

One of my favorite things about running is how it makes me much more aware of my body in general. Now I’m more motivated to tone and eat better. I’m not going to cut out any particular foods, but I’m going to let my body guide me.

friday + memories

23 Mar

Hey, soooo… bummer about this rain, eh, Chicago?

Even the rain can’t bring down how happy I am that it’s FRIDAY!!

Before I get into weekend plans, I want to share something with you. If you know me from… well… ever, you’ll know that I’ve always been a self-proclaimed hater of running. As a kid I would run and run and run everywhere, but as soon as I started getting more serious about my dancing career I was told NOT to run. Everyone said it would put extra – and unnecessary – strain on my knees and hips and it would potentially harm the muscles needed for particular movements.

People had a really hard time grasping the concept that running and dancing don’t always go together, so when people asked if I ran I would just tell them I hated to run. Easy, right? Saved me from having to explain it and then the inevitable will you dance a jig for me?

Long story short (too late for that?) I’ve recently started running and I love it. 🙂

MOVING ON.

Weekend plans include (but are most def. not limited to): a hunger games party, dinner with friends, watching my man’s band play, kisses, happy dances (I’ll tell you why on Monday 😉 ) annnnnd other FAB weekend things like sleeping in, cleaning, and sleeping in some more.
