awkward & awesome thursday!

30 Jun

Awkward…

  • Reading the Wall Street Journal on the train on my way to work and having this conversation with a stranger… Guy: “Are you reading the WSJ?” Me: “Yes” Guy: “Do you actually understand what’s written in there?” Me [wondering where he’s going with this]: “Yes, why?” Guy: “Girls don’t usually read that” Oh. He went there. I really didn’t know what to say after that so I just went on reading about how to move billions of dollars worth of art across Philly.
  • Eating half a bag of Garden Salsa Sunchips in 24 hours. They really are just that good. I almost put this as an “awesome” but in reality it’s awkward.
  • Looking goofy while trying to rush to get to the train only to get to the platform and see that it’s pulling away.
Awesome…
  • Making portobello mushroom sandwiches with on Friday! Portobello mushroom, barbeque sauce, bacon and lettuce. So good!
  • Getting my grade changed!!! Erin and I are going out tomorrow afternoon to celebrate with some ice cream!!
  • Leaving for work earlier than usual so I could stop by the only Chick-fil-A in the huge city of Chicago for some mini chicken biscuits. They were worth ever single one of those hard-earned pennies. (Chick-fil-A coming to Chicago is possibly the best thing that has happened to anyone who knows anything about CFA. It’s chicken love.)

Happy awkward & awesome thursday everyone! Wear sunscreen!

Awkward…

  • getting in the elevator and standing inside for 15 seconds before i realized i didn’t press the button. oopsies! (15 seconds doesn’t sound like a long time unless youre standing in an elevator by yourself)
  • having a student come into the grad school asking if we could tell him whether he was accepted or not, knowing he was denied, but not being able to tell him. i felt so bad!
  • standing in the church parking lot before my nephews baptism doing everything in my power to keep the wind from blowing my skirt up in front of everyone.
  • humming the Mario Bros. theme song only to realize that my bosses boss was standing there listening to me.
  • showing up to Greek fest 15 minutes after it started and being told there wouldn’t be food for another 30 minutes.

Awesome…

  • my nephew taking the picture of me above and then giggling uncontrollably and insisting that i take the same picture of him
  • Lincoln Park Greek Fest
  • going to two of my favorite places growing up! (Redamak’s and Tower Hill)
  • sending a pitiful email to my professor asking her to change my grade from a B+ to an A- and getting an email back saying she’ll see how to do that and change it!
  • quoting Hangover 2
  • doing my first awkward & awesome thursday.

Although Sydney from The Daybook wasn’t the first person to come up with Awkward & Awesome Thursday, hers are my fave! They are really funny, you should check her out! (The fashion side of her blog is fabulous and I love her blogging style) So… after her encouragement I decided to do my first Awkward & Awesome Thursday. See you next week!

My birthday!

1 Jun

Sunday was my birthday! I am now 24 years young. This year was a little different because I didn’t get to see my family, but the fabulous people in my life make it special 🙂

I wanted everything to be pretty low-key, so I invited a few friends from work to come over and have a couple drinks. Somehow they convinced me to go out to a bar after Midnight! School really kicked my butt over the past few months so this was a big deal.

The day of my birthday was really relaxing and quiet. I slept until almost noon and then did homework the rest of the day. Nothing too crazy for this 24 year old. Later that night Kevin and I went to Chicago Q for some BBQ! We couldn’t decide what to get (it all sounded so good!) so we split a pulled pork sandwhich and a whole rack of ribs. Oh. My. Goodness. Itwassosogood.

After dinner I went home and promptly fell asleep.

This was my first birthday without my mom and I missed her more than I can say, but I am so grateful for my family and friends for making me feel so loved. I have really great people in my life.
