friday letters

20 Jul

Dear Seal and Macy Gray, Can’t wait to see you two this weekend at Ravinia! I’m pretty sure I’m going to have just as much fun with you as I did with Lifehouse last year.

Dear people that complain about their job/boss publicly, I don’t understand how you feel comfortable doing this. How do you know someone isn’t going to see it and say something??

Dear Natalie, Thank you for your kind words over the last few weeks. You make me smile each and every time we talk/write/text 🙂

Dear Corey, I kind of want to hug you for minutes and minutes when I see you.

Dear Charles Bradley, Your station on Pandora is perfect for a Friday morning in the office. Work it.

My heart is heavy after reading about what happened in Colorado. These tragic moments are reminders to give one more hug, kiss, anything.

You just never know.

missing her

10 Jul

I’ve been in a funk. A missing my mom more than my heart can take funk. She loved the 4th of July and starting on the 3rd my heart began to ache. Badly.

My mind can’t wrap around the fact that it has almost been 18 months. Almost a year and a half without her.

I don’t cry every day or even every week anymore, but I have cried every single day for the past week. I woke up this morning remembering the morning she went in for her first surgery. My sister spent the night at home with me the night before and we stayed up until probably 4 in the morning talking, watching movies, doing laundry… we just couldn’t sleep. My sisters and I walked down to surgery with my mom and I tried really hard to not cry, but I couldn’t help it. My mom held my hand, looked up at the doctor and said, “This is my baby”.

I just miss her.

friday letters

29 Jun

Dear really nice lady that helped me yesterday, Thank you. I really can’t say enough how grateful I am you knew I wasn’t okay and helped even when others wouldn’t. I appreciate you.

Dear Suzanne Collins, You wrote really, really great books! I just finished re-reading Catching Fire and wish I had Mockingjay with me right now.

Dear people that keep talking about the heat, Please, just stop. I get it okay. The vast majority of you have some kind of cooler home to go to… I do not. (But huge thanks to Erin for offering to let me stay at your house last night!)

Dear popsicles, I. Love. You!

Dear WEEKEND! Hi, I’ve missed you! I’m ready to celebrate you every way possible! Just as soon as I get my dentist appointment out of the way.

Dear SarahCatherine, I CANNOT wait to see you! I really wasn’t joking when I said I might just pack up and come visit you one of these weekends.

Dear boyfriend, Thanks for a really fantastic date on Wednesday. I love you!

5 things i learned over the weekend

26 Jun

1. Less is more.

2. It rocks that I have 2 sisters. Not just one, but two. It makes the moments I miss my mom easier – they know what I’m talking about.

3. Ordering cheesecake (with strawberries – duh) to come out at the same time as dinner can be the best decision ever. I also learned that it’s okay to eat the cheesecake and drink wine instead of eating my actual dinner.

4. Random I love you phone calls can turn my whole day around.

5. Reading for hours instead of cleaning my apartment is perfectly fine.

Honorable mention… This is what happens to mini cupcakes when you put them in front of me and the boyfriend when we are hungry and an hour away from dinner…

good hair day

21 Jun

Last week I was over at my sisters house and we were having a casual conversation when I started crying. Out of the blue. We were sitting at the table with Paul, so I didn’t want to draw too much attention to it (although, if you are ever crying he gives you lots of hugs and tells you you’re wonderful). I briefly told her why and then knowing I was trying to cover up my random and somewhat out of nowhere tears she told me I was having a good hair day. I could tell she meant it and wasn’t just saying it to get me to stop. In that moment it was exactly what I needed to snap out of what was going on. Sometimes all I want is that all consuming mom hug (you know the one), and sometimes it’s nice to just be told you’re having a good hair day.

She’s kind of the best.

P.S. I put two pictures because well, I can. AND because the top one cracks me up. She looks stinkin adorable and I’m all leaning over the bench, shoving her head over I’m so excited to be in a picture with muh seeester.

i don’t exactly have the coolest weekend plans…

Happy Weekend

[via]

I’m pretty sure my weekend won’t be as beautiful and relaxing as yours considering I’m having a wisdom tooth taken out this afternoon. Thankfully my sister will be helping me out today and Corey finally comes home tomorrow. I plan to eat lots of ice cream with both of them. My dad is convinced I’ll be “pleasantly surprised” at how simple and relatively pain-free it is.

I PRAY I got his genes.

weekend happenings

4 Jun

This weekend was BUSY, but good 🙂 Here’s what happened…

ONE. I ate Taco Bell in the car, while driving, on 4 hours of sleep. I really don’t recommend it, but you gotta do what you gotta do.

TWO. Friday was National Doughnut Day, so Erin and I did what anybody in their right mind would do. We went to Krispy Kreme and got free doughnuts! The best part? We went to KK before dinner.  We were probably just as excited to do this in our 20s as we were as kids.

THREE. Except for the 2 minutes it took me to eat my doughnut, I spent the entire weekend eating Chipotle and Hacienda chips and Salsa. I don’t even like Chipotle, but Hacienda salsa makes it taste amazing. If I could eat their salsa all by itself I would. But then I wouldn’t have any friends.

FOUR. This was some of my drive around town music. The song boyfriend wrote for me and gave me for my birthday last year.

FIVE. My sisters and I spent the whole weekend going through some of my moms and grandmas things and lemme tell you, there was some random stuff! “Look! It’s Chick and Dick in candy form!”

SIX. My grandma was amazing. She made such beautiful clothes and blankets. Essentially anything she crocheted was beautiful. I hope one day I can make things half as well as she did. This was a pink baby sweater. I love the tag.

SEVEN. Paul and I thought it would be funny to see if Izaak’s little booty would fit into this cubby in my back seat. Turns out, it was a perfect fit! And the kid loved it!

EIGHT. Paul “drove” us to Ohio. He was thrilled to get to sit in the drivers seat. I even let him press a few buttons 🙂 (The car was safely parked and the keys safely in my pocket)

I finally got home around 7 last night, walked into my apartment and just stood there. I know I’m the exception, but I really do like unpacking all my things after moving. I was just exhausted from the weekend and had NO idea where the essentials were: shower curtain, work clothes, etc. I spent the next 2 hours setting things up the best I could and then crashed HARD.
Not all that exciting, but incredibly productive! I’m hoping to have my tv set up by tonight so I can watch the Bachelorette! I made Erin watch the first couple episodes of it over the weekend 🙂

ALSO. Hugehugehuge thank you to my amazing boyfriend for helping me move. You are my favorite. Love you!
