awkward & awesome thursday!

22 Mar

Awkward…

  • It never fails that when I type “awkward & awesome thursday” into the title section that I write “awekward & awesome” and I have to go back and change it. Every. Single. Time.
  • I fell going up the stairs at work when my boss was standing at the top of the stairs…. laughing at me.
  • I have a few go-to words/phrases that I answer nearly everything with: “Sup with that?”  “Ya know”  “Wouldn’t you like to know?”  I sound very mature and grownup. Especially when “yo” is added to any of them.
  • Autocorrect has ruined my ability to type on an actual keyboard. I just assume that when I type “goign” that it’s GOING to change it to “going”… it doesn’t.
  • When you DO like someone’s idea, but want to alter it just slightly… it makes it sound like you’re only telling them the good part to cushion the bad part, when that’s not the case at all. I hate hurting peoples feelings.
  • After telling Corey that I’m going to be a country star one day, but can’t be until I get a more country name you know what he said? “A more country name? What, like Sarah Jane?”. To which I laughed at and agreed that my real name would probably do just fine. I just need the cute sundress and cowgirl boots. (thanks mom and dad for giving me a name that i can transfer over to my lifelong dream!)

Awesome…

  • I made CHINESE FOOD! All by myself. And holy SMOKES – it was good! It better be after taking 2 hours to make. It was not good reheated so I’ll have to learn how to make the sauce in smaller portions.
  • Learning that one of my friends is going to have a baby!! I cannot wait to rub that belly and make cooing noises to it and tell little baby all the important things it needs to know about life (i.e. chunky salsa isn’t nearly as good as non-chunky salsa, rain boots are very important, and to say I love you too much)
  • Corey and I had our first “dislike by association” moment. You know what I’m talkin’ about.. when one person doesn’t like someone so the other doesn’t like them by association. We both agreed shortly after that we didn’t need to be mad so we stopped, but we were a force to be reckoned with for those 20 minutes.
  • Seriously, folks… what about the weather we’re having?? 80+ degrees in March? I LOVE IT!
  • I bought new running shoes… so now I might be able to run without my leggies hurting the whole time (or just not running at all because I know how much it’ll hurt). Next up: buying a REAL pair of running shoes, from a legit running shoe store… suggestions??
  • Going to dinner with my old roomie last night! It always amazes me when I see her how well we know each other. We seriously had the best time… good food, laughing, telling old stories, catching up on the latest, making fun of each other for the things that will never change and being shocked at the things that have (in all the best ways!).
  • I learned how to play* Stairway to Heaven on the guitar and now have this strange urge to try and play it again. I also have this incredibly strong urge to have Siri call me “rock god”… but I probably won’t give into that urge.
  • YOU GUYS. I have SUCH exciting news that’s a really great AWESOME, but I can’t tell you right now. It’s killing me to not be able to talk about, but I’ve gotta keep my lips (fingers?) sealed for another week.
happy almost friday!! xo

*by “play” I mean that I technically learned 4 chords and took 10 second pauses between each while I re-positioned.

awkward…

  • Walking the one block from the train to my office almost directly next to this guy and at almost the same moment we both stopped dead in our tracks. “What’s different here?” I asked out loud. He said he was thinking the same thing. Turns out they took the scaffolding down that had been there for the past 2.5 months. That’s all.
  • Hanging up on a client at work. Sorry about that, guy!
  • Having 2 minutes of a conversation with my dad thinking we were talking about one thing while he thought we were talking about another, very different, thing.
  • Getting slightly excited when a friend cancelled dinner on Monday because it meant that I could go home and watch the Bachelor.
  • Missing my boyfriend terribly when it’s only been 4 days since I last saw him. Wah wah.
  • A stupid lady telling me that because I’m “only” an aunt that I don’t know how to take care of a baby. I nearly punched her when she told me that it was much too cold to be bringing a 2 month old outside without a hat and coat. Well, meanie, he does have a hat and a whole warm fluffy bodysuit… they are right over there. See? Now back off.

awesome…

  • I made a kick booty budget. Wooooo for me!
  • Spending 8 hours on Saturday with my little bug, Thomas!
  • Sunday morning was a tough one for me and Corey “made” me breakfast on couch. [That sounds weird, but I ate on the couch, not in bed.. anyway..) The awesome breakfast was ice cream, bananas, and hershey kisses. He spoils me.
  • Going to lunch with Erin, Paul, Izaak, and Thomas. [“Am I being punked??” haha!]
  • I juuust checked weather.com and you know what it told me? It’s supposed to be in the 39-45 degree range this weekend!! With SUN! As my co-worker said… it’s time to bust out the t-shirt!! (Sorry Chicagoans, this is the forecast for St. Louis)
  • Getting slightly excited when a friend cancelled dinner on Monday because it meant that I could go home and watch the Bachelor. [see what I did there? I made it both an awkward and awesome. I’m slick like that]
  • I’m wearing earrings today that make it look like I have a mini disco ball hanging from each ear. Yup, fancy pants earrings for a gloomy Thursday.
  • Corey and I both got out of work early last Friday and met up for lunch at Goose Island Brewpub. Best spinach and artichoke dip everrrr. After lunch we went and took a long afternoon nap. Best way to spend a Friday afternoon if you ask me!
  • I haven’t gone to Starbucks ONCE this week! This morning I reallllllllly wanted to, but didn’t. Good story, right?

awkward & awesome thursday!

Awkward…

  • Asking my sister if she reads my blog and her reply being “oh yeah! I look forward to Friday’s when you post awkward and awesome thursday”
  • Taking the time to make an awesomeawesome lunch and then leaving it on the counter.
  • The lady that works at Starbucks knows exactly what drink I get now.
  • I have officially gotten my first real wet willy. Is it weird that I’m kind of proud of that? Yes?  Okay.
  • Derek: Do you know who this is? Me: No. Derek: It’s Led Zeppelin. Please tell me you’ve heard of Led Zeppelin. Me: Of course I’ve heard of him. Derek [laughing really hard]: It’s not a HIM… it’s a BAND.
  • Going straight from strawberry gum to carrots and peanut butter. I don’t recommend it.
  • Trish, the taller of my two sisters, came up and put her arms over my shoulders so wrapped both arms around her and then a minute later went to take my front arm away and started to leave my hand on her stomach. (A move reserved for the boyfriend) I could feel myself blushing immediately and hoped she didn’t notice. WRONG. She did. She started laughing and told me there was nothing in there so I didn’t need to rub her belly. ha! I obviously need to spend more time hugging other people.
  • Wearing see-through leggings and not realizing it. The funniest part? I told the boyfriend that I realized they were see-through and you know what he said? “Yeah, I know” He said he thought I knew. ha!

Awesome…

  • Going to the Glenwood Sunday Market and leaving with muffins, tea, and a pie.
  • Catching up on my 52/52. During my job transition I got a couple weeks behind so I’m now trying to get caught up.
  • Sometimes I forget that the boyfriend wrote me a song and then I remember and feel all warm and fuzzy inside.
  • Someone not related to me or one of my friends commented on one of my posts!
  • Getting a week off from work between Christmas and NY!! It was full of family, boyfriend, reading, taking long walks, time with friends, movies, food, and you know, other stuff.
  • I started watching Notting Hill about 5 years ago and finally finished watching it. The end was exactly what I thought it would be.
  • Celebrating Joey’s SIXTH birthday! I can hardly believe my little Joey is old enough to be losing teeth, talking about school, and is almost too big for me to pick up (keyword: almost… I have every intention of being that annoying aunt that tries and that gives too many kisses)
  • I crocheted my first hat!
  • While I was on the train crocheting said first hat this guy started talking to me about how it was a dying art and then… **drum roll please** He asked if he could buy one!! Seriously guy on train, you made my day!!
  • Seeing the boyfriends face light up when I gave him his incredibly late Christmas gift. He does so so many great things for me it was nice to get him something he really wanted. (A Netflix subscription)
  • I heart Falafill. A lot 🙂

9 Dec

Awkward…

  • Everyday at work between 9-10AM I sneeze 3 times. Not necessarily in a row, but sometimes it is.
  • Speaking of sneezing, I recently met Corey’s dog and found out I’m allergic to him. He’s too cute and fun to stay away from though so I’ll have to figure out what I should do/take while I’m there. (Any suggestion?!)
  • I’m posting this on a Friday, again.
  • My list of lists. I love making lists, but lately it has gotten a little ridiculous.

Awesome…

  • Celebrating Rikki’s birthday by going to Zoo Lights, Noodles in the Pot, and out for drinks after!
  • Seeester came over for lunch and hung out long enough that we ended up having dinner together too. That was a nice surprise.
  • Free (delicious) lunch at work.
  • Date night with boyfriend. He made me dinner (eggplant cheesy yumminess) and we watched Anastasia, which is definitely one of my favorite movies.
  • Planning Trish’s Chicago birthday visit! I love birthdays and am soso excited to celebrate hers officially 🙂
  • Watching the little daycare kiddos walking by the office twice a day singing and having a great time. I love that they don’t seem to notice that it’s freezing, they are just happyhappy.
  • Feeling like I’m finally settling into my job. I have a routine that ensures that I don’t need to stand outside in the cold for more than 3 minutes waiting for a bus or train either direction.

Awkward…

  • I almost sat on Izaak. Yup, that’s a biggie, huh? I just thought they had a bunch of blankets on their couch, turned out there was a baby in one of them. I did catch myself in time, but Erin did see me do this. Sorry Seeester! I promise to not sit on any of your kids.
  • Hanging out with a friend in Oak Park and not seeing Corey, seriously, so strange. I texted Corey telling him how weird it felt and he responded with, “It’s weird for me too. It’s like you’re playing in my sandbox but I’m not invited” haha
  • So far, in every job I’ve had I’ve worked with sharers. I’m talking people who share food, stories, stamps, hugs, office annoyances, etc. I now work in an office where it’s not quite the same. My first day here we went to lunch and there was to be no food sampling going on at that table. Then yesterday I mentioned something about my pantyhose to one of my co-workers who acknowledged that I said something and then promptly had to go do something else.
  • Last week after Thanksgiving dinner/hanging out was over Corey and I headed to SB so I could briefly show him around and get a few things done while we were there. It was around 9PM before we got to the hotel so we were ready to eat some food and jump on the bed or something. After we checked in, I wanted to see the room before we brought our stuff up and I am oh-so glad we did because we walked into the room and first noticed that the bed wasn’t made. In fact, it looked like someone had just gotten out of bed and would be right back. Then we noticed that the TV was still on too. What?! We stood there for like 10 seconds, kinda weirded out, trying not to laugh too loud, then left. We passed a guy in the hallway on our way back out and are convinced that we had just walked into his room. We went back to the front desk where they said they had no clue how that happened and promptly got us another room. Thankfully the bed was made and the tv was off.
  • My mouse at work kind of squeaks. How appropriate.
  • Wearing a coat that is longer than my dress.

Awesome…

  • Friday night I went with some of my favorite people ever to a Turkish/Mediterranean restaurant called Efes Cafe. The food was fantastic, the company was fantastic, and the conversation was … special, as usual 🙂
  • This past weekend was the weekend from awesomeness. I got plenty of sleep and plenty of time with friends.
  • I wasn’t sure if I was going to put this as an Awkward or Awesome, but I went and saw Breaking Dawn with an old co-worker/friend! We had dinner/watched the end of the Bears game then went to the movie. I really wanted to see it and was so excited to hear that she wanted to, too!
  • A good pair of pantyhose.
  • Today is my dad’s birthday! You can read about it in the post, but I am so so excited that he decided to come here and celebrate in Chicago. The fam is meeting me right after work and we’re walking somewhere to have delicious food.
  • Erin and I went shopping for Trish’s birthday gift and are so excited about what we got her! Trish’s birthday was on Thanksgiving this year so she asked if we could do the actual celebrating another day. I’m looking forward to her coming here or us going there and having a girls day (plus the two boy munchkins)!
  • I’m pretty sure I found this funnier than I should have.

***************************************************************************

This is a random collection of A&A Thursdays from the past two weeks. I know someone is going to read this and be all “no way, we went to dinner TWO weeks ago”… Yeah, I know.

awkward & awesome thu-… friday?!

18 Nov

Awkward…

  • When I’m talking to someone online and I feel the need to say something, but it isn’t directly related to the conversation I (put it in parentheses). I just wrote 4 different lines of randomness to my seeester in parentheses. She still loves me.
  • Trying to initiate a conversation that wasn’t at all part of the previous one by adding “speaking of…” but not realizing that it wasn’t part of it until after I sent the text. Go me!
  • This is a 2 parter… Part 1. I’m addicted to Pinterest. Part 2. I sometimes go on one board pinning sprees and then randomly find something I want to pin somewhere else but forget that I’m not pinning it to the right board and everything gets messed up. (Kudos if you understood any of that)
  • Putting my phone on speaker while I’m on hold and then nearly peeing my pants when someone started talking because I forgot I was waiting.
  • I was going through all my pens/markers/etc. figuring out which ones still worked and took a picture of all my colored sharpie markers because that’s what cool people do.
  • I’ve forgotten to do A&A Thursday for a long time so this is actually from the past couple of weeks. And posted on a Friday.

Awesome…

  • The movie Tangled. You remember mine and Corey’s movie night fail, right? Wellllll, I’m happy to say that we have each picked one movie to watch. His choice was Howl’s Moving Castle and mine was Tangled. Since we watched my pick I have watched it approximately 6 times. Don’t judge. It really is that good. (“Her hair glows. I didn’t see that coming. Why does her hair glow?!”)
  • I have bangs now!
  • Keeping Up with the Kardashians. I know I’m really late to that party, but I can’t help it. I’m obsessed. I don’t want their lives, but man do I want their lives.
  • Right around a year ago my mom hand wrote the chicken soup recipe she made during the middle of winter or when me and my sisters were sick and I made it over the weekend. My boo was sick so he was my inspiration. It didn’t turn out quite like my moms, but hopefully after a few tries it’ll be closer. 🙂
  • Erin had the baby!!! Izaak was born 11/5/11 and was (is) tiny and adorable and very loved.
  • Oh, so, yeah… I got a full time job! I have been praying and searching to get a job that I like. I started on Monday and I can already feel myself relaxing about so many things. I’m so grateful for the job I had between graduating and starting here, but I am one of those people that actually likes the consistency of the 9-5.
  • Sylwia and I met at a Greek restaurant right by my house for what was supposed to be a quick dinner so she could get back to studying and we ended up staying over 4 hours.
  • Thanksgiving is next week and I’m so excited that I’ll be surrounded by all the people I love.

awkward & awesome thursday!

22 Sep

Awkward…

  • I was telling my co-workers that I could eat grilled onions everyday and not get tired of them and one girl goes “Ew. Grilled onions are so gross” and you want to know what I wanted to say to her? “You’re gross so shut up” You wouldn’t know it, but I am 24 and I did graduate from college and am not 7 and in second grade.
  • My loofa caught on my earring while I was in the shower – two days in a row! I didn’t know what to do… there were suds everywhere. I ended up having to take my earring out (very carefully so it wouldn’t slip!) and detaching the loofa. Somehow I was successful (both times), but it was annoying.
  • Eating French onion soup is really awkward all by itself. There is no story here, it’s delicious – but awkward.
  • So, I ordered prints of all my kiddos so I see their 4 adorable faces every time I walk in or out of my living room and every now and then I find myself passing by them and saying (out loud) “hello pumpkin” but of course it doesn’t sound like that, it sounds more like “hedddoooo punkin” which is exactly what I sound like when I talk to them in person, but saying it to their photo makes it awkward.

Awesome…

  • My dad came to visit! The last time he came to visit was for a quick overnight trip for graduation, but we spent most of the time at graduation and it was only 2 weeks after I moved into my new apartment so it was fun to get to hang out in my neighborhood and go downtown for dinner.
  • Spelling “fascinating” right on the first try.
  • Corey and I went to the Art Institute for his birthday and there was a photography exhibit that has photos from various places around Chicago and I got so, so excited because there is a photo of a girls quinceañera and I was totally thereeee!! Well, not like, for the celebration or anything, but for the pictures! I was walking around the garden by the Lincoln Park zoo and BAM! A girl in a huge poofy blue dress with about 30 other young teens running around in really, really fancy clothes. It was almost like I was a huge part of her day or something… kind of. No? Okay.
  • How amazing is that picture above?! I was waiting for the train one day after work and saw it and thought it was, by far, one of the most awesome things in the history of ever!
  • Today is Erin’s birthday, which is awesome all by itself! 🙂 My seeester is amazing and I am so excited to spend part of her day with her.
  • Corey and I are going to have a video game day at some point so I’m brushing up on my trash talkin’ skillz. Example:
Corey: they call me quickdraw mc[insertlastname], ya know…
me:  they wont be calling you anything once i’m through with you.
